Ripon is a cathedral city, market town and successor parish in the Borough of Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is located at the confluence of two tributaries of the River Ure, the Laver and Skell. The city is noted for its main feature the Ripon Cathedral which is architecturally significant, as well as the Ripon Racecourse and other features such as its market. The city itself is just over 1,300 years old. – Wikipedia
We visited Ripon briefly on the way back to Newcastle from Dewsbury, near Leeds. We only spent about an hour or so wandering around. It was a mild early spring evening. The sun was setting in the background beautifully. The No.1 sightseeing spot was closed. But it was worth the visit.
Getting lost in narrow streets which reminded me of York.
My favourite photo of the day:
On the hall, it says “Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain” from Psalm 127. I was very proud to interpret the ancient English before my British husband did!
