I think I’m qualified to call Newcastle my city now: having spent five years of my life here (with no plan to move), got a degree, a job, a husband (a mum, sisters and became an aunt for the first time!), a home, a Lord and Saviour – I can definitely call Newcastle my city!
If you want to experience Saturday rush hour in a sea of black and white and feel the ground under your feet quaking near St. James’ Park with a explosion of ROAR (occasionally a very organised demonstration); if you want to get to the coast, the river, proper countryside, a medieval town, another rival city, the biggest shopping centre in the UK and the airport all in about 30mins; if you want to receive tasty grapes from lovely old couples in metro, if you want to hear “are you OK there” and get your bike fixed in a split second in the street, if you want to know how it feels when a huge guy with tattoos, earrings and shocking language let you off the train like a proper gentleman – you have to make Newcastle your home too.
