Summer in Purple

This is Cotswold Lavender mid-way between York and Scarborough in Yorkshire. It’s about 2 hours drive from Newcastle. A perfect day trip destination. We visited nearby Scampston Walled Garden on the same day. I recommend it if you’re a Piet Oudolf or New York High Line fan but live in Northern England. I’ll put photos of the garden in a separate post soon.

Cotswold Lavender offers a big variety of lavenders in pots, runs a simple tea room with tasty ice cream, and best of all, produces its own range of beauty products. The icing on the cake? The lavender farm is completely free to visit, sit down and relax, to run around and enjoy the romance of shades of purple!

A little bit of extra information:

We met up with good friends Wen Shi and Paul from GCF days (for those who know what I’m talking about) at Malton station and drove to the lavender farm. It was a bright sunny day. The perfume of lavender under the baking sun was amazing. Very different to average washing powder or hand wash mind you. Newcastle is too cold and too wet for this lovely plant. Mine are struggling a bit. Their life is made particularly difficult by my bad habit of changing my mind frequently and moving plants around every couple of weeks. Anyway we chatted about seeing the dentist (or not), using dental floss and taking photos of teeth. They’re both trained dentists by the way. It was lovely to meet up Paul and Wen Shi! Hope to see you again soon!

    Hi Nicole
How amazing! I’m on holiday in Yorkshire at present with three friends and we were thinking of going to the lavender farm tomorrow. However now we’re going to Pickering instead. If I’d known how close we were I’d have been in touch to try to arrange to meet up.
    Hope you’re both well.
    Lots of love x
