A Diary for My Sweet Peas 2013 – seedlings appear

After we came back from our holiday, my loo roll tubes welcomed us with little sweet pea seedlings.

Spring is in our garden and our conservatory, no matter how much it snows. Roses and acers have lovely fresh leaves. Lavenders suddenly doubled their size. Many pot plants I got from friends garden last autumn have been sitting there doing nothing for the whole winter, and I had no idea if they were alive or not. But I can tell now. They’re waking up to the spring.

It was our first proper gardening day yesterday. I mulch the rose bushes according to the instructions from Gardeners World. Weed (a verb), weed and weed. Put two hellebores in the back garden under the cherry tree. I really like Monty’s spring garden. I’m trying to make the corner of our back garden a “spring corner”, with some hellebores, some primroses, maybe some snowdrops in the future. Many of them were grown from seeds. It’s really satisfying to see them grow day by day. The first plant to flower is pulmonaria. It has a tiny pink flower and a blue one. To see such dainty things flowering bravely in this cold air it’s really lovely.
